Rules And Information
Welcome to the GolfLeagueSite Greatest Golfer! Here’s an overview of the 3rd annual event.
Things are subject to change. Stay tuned.
Tournament Overview
-
This tournament is a stroke play format within 36 holes of play. In our Ladies Net and Senior Net Divisions the format is net stroke play, based on the WHS handicap index up to a max of 25.0. In all other divisions, the format is gross stroke play (just like the pros on tour).
-
The tournament will be played at Worthington Manor Golf Club on Saturday 9/24 and Sunday 9/25.
-
All players should have either a GolfLeagueSite account with a league or WHS handicap or some other handicap index that can be verified. All players should register using their most accurate WHS handicap index.
-
The tournament is limited to players with a 25 handicap or less. To play in the Mens Open division, you must demonstrate a handicap below 4. Players above that handicap must play in the proper skill division.
-
To play in the Senior division, you must be 60 years of age by the start of the tournament.
-
We aim to accommodate tee time requests due to work or other obligations as long as they are within our set times. You cannot request playing partners.

Some Rules of Play
-
USGA and local rules will govern play.
-
Please count your clubs before teeing off (max: 14 clubs).
-
We will use live scoring from GolfLeagueSite, which will provide a live leaderboard during play. If you don't already have it, download the GolfLeagueSite app (and test your login) before arrival please. Your login is the same email/password you use to login to the website. If you've never logged into either, you can reset your password from the login page or just contact us and we'll help you. The app is not a requirement for play, but it is preferred to make scoring simple and automatically attested by the other players. One paper scorecard will be kept for the group. One player will volunteer to keep that score. Players should agree on scores at each hole, then finalize scores together as a group, then immediately turn in to the tourney rep.
-
Any discrepancies with play/scoring/results must be addressed with rules committee before cards are signed/submitted. Once the scorecard has been verified by a competitor and marker and signed, no alterations will be made. If you have a problem with play that day, you must introduce the issue before scores are finalized..
-
Use of measuring devices is permitted, with the exception of tools that detect elevation.
-
All putts must be holed. NO GIMMIES. It is a rules violation to not hole out.
-
If there is a doubt as to a rules procedure, a player may play two balls and the rules committee will make the ruling after play. Please report the issue before signing your scorecard.
-
Playoff system
-
Ties for first place will go back out to compete if time allows — playing one hole
at a time until one player bests another.
-
If time does not allow, then playoff follows: Scorecard playoff will break all ties using this order: Your back 9 score; your back 6 score; your back 3. If still tied, then hole-by-hole starting with No. 1 handicap until tie is broken.
-
Second and third places will be decided by scorecard playoff format.
-
Pace of play is crucial. Our goal is 4 hours and 20 minutes. Staff will monitor play and issue warnings. If you are out of position, your group will receive a warning and placed on the clock. A two-stroke penalty can be assessed. Please play ready golf.
-
Seriously, pace of play is a big deal. No 5-hour rounds. Most of our rounds are not — despite what the golf experts who do not play Greatest want you to believe. But every year, a few groups go Lewis & Clark exploring on us. If you are not on heels of group in front of you, we suggest: 1) Play ready golf; 2) head to next tee box upon finishing hole; 3) Walk faster; 4) Talk less
-
The tournament committee and course officials may adjust format due to weather conditions, course conditions or other circumstances.
-
Players will be advised of any local rules at the start of play.
-
Smile. Breathe. Enjoy.
More Rules of Play
-
Golf Balls and Clubs: Only golf balls that have been tested and are on the current list of USGA Conforming Golf Balls may be used. All clubs must meet USGA specifications. Penalty - Disqualification.
-
Out of Bounds: UPDATED HERE!
If a ball is deemed out of bounds, you will play the new USGA rule of a 2-shot penalty and a drop in the nearest fairway point no closer to hole if you had not hit a provisional at the site of the initial hit. At your initial hit, it is old-school OB: If you believe you are OB, hit a provisional. When you get to the landing area, you can play the first ball if it is found. Otherwise, play the provisional. If you did not hit the provisional in the first place, and you arrive in the landing area to find yourself OB, you must invoke the new 2-stroke rule. You cannot walk/ride back to the tee. That’s too slow.
-
Damaged grounds: Areas enclosed with white lines. French drains are also considered ground under repair. Free relief. If tourney officials failed to mark an obvious area in the fairway or rough that is too damaged for a fair shot, a player may appeal to his/her playing partners for free relief. Just one has to agree.
-
Doubt as to Procedure: play two balls and play both balls until holed out. The incident should be reported to the rules committee before the scorecard is signed.
-
Please refrain from playing music out loud (e.g., speaker in your cart or from your phone) during the round, many players view this as a distraction.
Worthington Manor
-
All tall grass and native areas will be played as a lateral hazard, even when they are not marked with red stakes. This only applies to taking a drop - if you play the ball as it lies from any native area that is not marked as a hazard, this rule does not prevent you from grounding your club on that shot.
-
The following tees will be played by each division:
-
Black Tees - Men's Open
-
Blue Tees - Men's 4-7
-
White Tees - Men's 8-11, Men's 12-15, Men's 16-19
-
Gold Tees - Senior Net, Men's 20+
-
Red Tees - Ladies Net
